He did, albeit after Ali had nothing left... Both men (classic boxers) in their prime would be interesting.

BTW, once upon a time, Holmes was Ali's sparring partner... If memory serves me right, Ali did fight and defeat one of his former sparring partners - Jimmy Ellis.

"Nobody beats Ali" is very generous of Tyson, even though he seems to be high on weed as he says it. Frazier - for one - did beat Ali. And Tyson, a faster more relentless version of Frazier, would have KO'd Ali within 3 rounds, not unlike what he did to Berbick.

But I'm with Carlos on this one. On the show he went on back in the 80's when asked who would win between him and Tyson, he pointed at Tyson and clearly implied Tyson would beat him.

Did he mean it? I highly doubt it.

He probably was just being respectful. But he did clearly imply in that interview that he thought he would lose to Tyson.
Yes, absolutely. I think it's as much being diplomatic as respectful. I doubt he actually believes that Tyson could have beaten him at all. In fact, I dare say he thinks he would have embarrassed Tyson.

Along with Tyson, Fraizer, and Foreman.

I often dont think Joe gets enough credit for who he is because he wasnt as loud as Muhammad Ali or entertaining, nor did he have that whole black movement thing Ali was doing (which was more him being manipulated by his handlers more than anything).

But its America so the biggest and loudest will get their share first.
I'm confused. Ali beat Foreman and Frazier(twice) and would have stomped Joe Louis almost easily. Boxing had evolved so much from the time that Joe Louis fought to the time Ali fought, there shouldn't even be a comparison. Now I do think that Tyson would have a legit chance to beat Ali, but against those other guys Ali already proved who was better

You do sound confused. Ali never proved that he was better than Joe Louis. That sounds ridiculous. And he sure wouldn't have stomped him either. And I'd pick Louis over Tyson without blinking too.

Trolling me? No footwork, no speed Joe Louis over Mike Tyson, who had the spectacular power and decent footwork to put up a good fight and beat any heavyweight from any time? Joe Louis was nothing more than a stereotypical slugger! He had no special form nor did he have speed. He was definitley dominant compared to the boxers of his time and before, but Joe Louis beating Mike Tyson or Ali? Come on bro.
Joe Louis had beserker strength and probably a solid chin but at his time fighters did not move as fast nor hit as hard as the fighters in Tysons time and definitley Ali's time. You probably think that the contenders of Louis's time could beat ALi and Tyson too don't you.

lol Tyson would smash Joe's jaw and give him a lesson in combination punching

He could never survive the fury of a Tyson attack ... something you need to beat Tyson is an iron chin and Joe Louis was getting dropped as much as Wlad ... average guys were sending him to the canvas ... albeit he got up and recovered and won those fights, I don't see it happening against Tyson who had the most ferocious, lethal attack in the whole of boxing

Louis also lacked mobility, something else you need if you plan on surviving with Tyson ... horrible match up for Joe Louis, he has a much better shot against Ali but I don't think he beats either of them

Joe Louis a slugger... thats a new one.
                  A very green statement.

No foot work? Are you kidding me, Joe Louis foot work is supreme. This man would never wastes a step, and would constantly use his feet to set up his opponent for the counter. He was always using his feet to get within perfect range, always planted and ready for the bombs. To say his footwork was bad is ridiculous. He doesnt need his feet to evade like Ali because Joe Louis would block and parry, hence also why he didnt need to move as much. He could block and time you better than anyone.

And no SPEED? What? Joe Louis speed AND power were great. Once he let his hands go they always got to his target, and thats not because he was slow. Joe Louis accuracy is far better than Ali's, or Tyson. He probably has the best straight punches out of all the heavies. His jab was fast, and it hurt. His right was short and explosive, this man could do damage with everything he through. And he could throw a killer body punch too. Look at how many punches Mike Tyson had to throw to knock down his opponents and how many times he had to knock them down compared to Joe Louis. Once Joe Louis got you he'd get you. Not only that but lol... the men were much tougher those days and could take a punch, compared to the bums Tyson fought through out his whole career.

Every thing was timed, calculated, and strategized far more than Ali. Not only that but just look at his record and achievements, far better than Ali. Far from a slugger and when he did slug he could beat the slugger, look at what happened to Max Baer, now that was slugger.

He was a boxer to the fullest.

Joe Louis was textbook boxing in almost every facet. It's obvious this guy has no idea what he is talking about. Get the Dudley Avatar out of there. You're no gentleman. You probably play SF4 too. Gutter-trash.

Joe Louis was an alpha-male among scrubs. The fighters of his time did not hit as hard nor move as fast as figthers did when the generations went on. I honestly never saw all of this from Joe Louis, but I'm open to suggestion so tell me some of Joe Louis's best fights if one is trying to learn about his skill.

I have pretty much street-fighter game except the first so yeah I do have SF4. (Most of them on emulators before you ask. And come on, Joe Louis may have been a technical boxer and I was just not paying attention clearly enough in his fights, but you cannot deny that the level of competition went up as the years went by for heavyweight boxing. The late 60s-late 80s was the best era in heavyweight boxing, and Tyson and Ali fought and for the most part, beat the best figthers in that awesome period.
