Being a bigheaded **** never pays off as we all know.
Well I think it turned out alright for him, since he went down as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.

What didn't turn our well for him was the difficulties he had due to rampant racism against him.

JJ was bullet proof and punch proof against the likes of Ali.

OK, but I meant only his fight against Willard when his ass was kicked and karma returned back somehow.

I do agree the final outcome for him was OK (same as for another bigheaded **** Lennox Lewis) and both are in HW HoF -- but at least they both got punished hard and humiliated.

Punished? More like he gassed out. That was hardly a punishment, bro.

He was winning most of the fight. Here's what the ref had to say:

After the fight, referee Jack Welch said: "If I had been compelled to give a decision at the end of the twenty-fifth round, it would have been Johnson's by a wide margin. Up to the twentieth round, Willard had one won only one round by a real margin and two or three others by the slightest shade. In the thirteenth and fourteenth, I was almost sure Johnson would knock Willard out, but Willard showed that his jaw and body were too tough. Johnson put up a wonderful fight to the twentieth round, but age stepped in then and defeated him."
I'm not sure what exactly he was being a dlckhead about? He was just living his life. He was certainly big headed and a braggart, but otherwise, I don't know why anyone would hate him honestly.

I did not know this, thanks, interesting read. Nevertheless, he got his ass kicked finally. Perhaps Lewis also was winning on points with Rahman, but finally he was kissing canvas.
IMO, there's a difference between being a **** and living one's life. Max Baer lived his life for sure and noone could call him a bigheaded ****.

Ali could have easily been shot for some of his actions and views and he gave up a big portion of his career to make his point. In that era Martin Luther King was shot. Kennedy was shot. Malcolm X was shot. Detroit had a massive race riot. It was a very volatile time.

                - -Robert never got out the gate and John snuffed in the first rd.

Don't forget Malcolm getting burned out of house and Home by NOI who knocked him off for good a couple yrs later.

Nonetheless, the OP made a typical schoolboy assertion as happens too often on boxing boards. Ali talked loud and proud while JJ walked proud, and while Ali was a philanderer, he never ran or financed whorehouses like JJ did.

Fair enough. You're certainly entitled to your own opinion. Plenty of boxers are big headed braggarts. I just don't see specifically what JJohnson did to make anyone dislike him to the extent that you seem to dislike him, but to each their own.

                  Cheers, bro.
