It would have been a good payday for both fighters.

Anyone know why there was no hagler duran 2

Hagler didn't fight with a lot of intensity and won a fairly comfortable decision. If he fought a rematch with passion Duran would lose by a wider margin so there really wasn't a reason for a rematch

Hagler fought with more intensity against duran than he did leonard. There were negotations for the rematch with lower dollor figures but better than hagler would have earned for roldan and hamsho as well as what roberto earned for hearns but I heard roberto was given cash up front for Hearns and took it and kept on partying.Originally posted by DarkTerror88 View PostHagler didn't fight with a lot of intensity and won a fairly comfortable decision. The reason there was never a rematch was because in his very next fight Duran was destroyed by Hearns. It was Hearns who therefore got the Hagler match.
After Hagler met Hearns, Hagler went into his semi retirement, he only fought Mugabi and Leonard in the following two years.

There are some revisionists who paint the first fight as a fight that was well received when the truth is that it was considered a disappointment and a letdown.
Once Hearns massacred Duran, Roberto was considered done as a mega fight guy and the interest in Hearns vs Hagler skyrocketed.

Duran was considered well past it for the rest of his career post 1981. It was all very hit and miss and people knew that. Which Duran would they get? The motivated, semi well trained version, which was rare, or the fat, pudgy one which seemed to happen more often than not?Originally posted by jabsRstiff View PostThere are some revisionists who paint the first fight as a fight that was well received when the truth is that it was considered a disappointment and a letdown.

He's very similar in that way to Toney today, or of recent times anyway. Great first half of career, then had some great fights as well as lots of **** ones where he came in fat and clearly uncaring. They became a promoters nightmare, though Duran could obviously pull a big crowd whatever his shape.
