  • name the best manager, trainer, fighter combination

This is going to be a tough one because I want the members of this forum to consider the following. For the manager consider did he maxmize his fighters earnings, not mismatch his fighter to take unnessary beatings thus considering
    his long term health.
For the trainer did he or she improve there fighters skills and have them properly conditioned.

For the fighter did he realize a his potential and retire from the sport healthy wealthy and wise.

I have been impressed with the Lou Duva-George Benton team with Whitaker, Meldrick Taylor and Holyfield(and others). Both Duva and Benton get little mention as far as trainers and managers go, but did some great things.

those are both good suggestion louis team had to nagatate though some very racial times the only downfall is that louis did not hold on to his money as let say sugar ray leonard has.

from an interview with Kevin Rooney a few years ago ...

Q – How did you get to be a trainer? Were you an ex-boxer?
A – I was an ex-professional fighter. I was a 5 time Golden Glove Champion. My record as a pro was 21-4-1, with I don’t know, 10 or 12 knockouts. Looking back I should have fought as a Middleweight. I fought my whole career as a Welterweight. I had no regrets. I was around the great Cus D’Amato. This guy was a genius. Right after he died I had a job in one of those correctional facilities in Catskill, Catskill Green Correctional. I said I gotta remember what Cus taught me. So, I started teaching all these guys. Then I had Tyson. Cus died and Tyson was 11-0. I finished the job. Then he went with King and Kevin Rooney was out and then Mike Tyson took the downfall where he should have stayed with the people that Cus D’Amato had put in place-----Bill Cayton, Jimmy Jacobs, Kevin Rooney and Steve Watt. Cus knew he wasn't going to see it through so he put together the perfect team. But then Jimmy died and Mike married Robin. Then they started making all these false accusations. They made a score. They were out for a score and they made a score on Tyson. Then Don King stepped into the picture. Then Mike left Bill Clayton and tried to fire Kevin Rooney. But, I sued and I won my lawsuit against him. We were asking for $49 million dollars. The jury only gave me $4 million dollars. (Laughs). They should’ve gave me $18 million dollars. So, that’s that.

your forgetting Teddy who did the early work (trainer & cornerman) with Cus on Mike. Plus Mike refussing to trust Cayton with the business when Cayton was Cus's guy!
Petronelli Bros with Hagler did it their way all the way! They were are team!!
Chap and Louis is hard to beat, I can't think of the manager but Joe was his own worst enemy when it came to funds.

Tex and Dempsey were the all time promotion rascals. They made a ton of money together and Jack was the King of the World at that time. Ray.
