  • Did Ali neglect to go to the body?

I honestly don't recall him ever going to the body all that much. If that was the case are there some who may've regarded him as an incomplete fighter?

Ali was the epitome of a headhunter.

He showed some fine body work versus Terrel. Incidentally he was carrying Terrel so he could lay on more punishment.

Yes, that was one flaw in his game. But with his speed, and style, he never really missed out accordingly.

I am reading dundees book "my view from a corner" and he states ali was not did not go to the body to often choosing to cut people with that jab. It is a shame He went into exile as we missed his prime.

Another part of the reason I think was that Terrel was 6'7" and his body was more accessible. I don't think it would have been very smart for Ali, a tall Boxer puncher who habitually kept his hands low, to bend down (in close range) in order to go low to the body against shorter brawler-types. Almost all of his opponents, even if they weren't brawlers could brawl better than he could. Terrel was probably the only exception.

That particular habit wasn't a flaw given his style; I think it would have proved to be a major flaw if he had tried it.

He was an accurate head shooter and body punching wasn't his style. I remember Ali saying body punching is pointless if you are in great enough shape to absorb them. Ali is an outside fighter and counter punching to the head works best for a sharp shooter who is quick.

His head up and back, hands down low kind of style would have not only left him vulnerable when going to the body, but would also result in his body shots being nothing more than fluff.

Most tall heavyweights don't work the body much. And Ali in his era was a relatively tall fighter. Holmes, Lewis, and the Klitschko's didn't go to the body much either.
