    Another Guess the Champ

    A future heavyweight titlist:

Once before a fight, and in front of reporters, he ****** his head violently against a radiator, just to show how much punishment he could endure.

Unfortunately, I can't recall who his opponent was. Anyway, he lost the fight.

Max Baer - before his fight with Ernie Schaaf in Madison Square Garden on December 19, 1930.

Too easy, I guess. Only Baer would have come up with an idea like that

      So, Schaaf it was. Thx.

Max Baer did it before he went against Schaaf.

I see this was already answered, sorry!

Two votes for Schaaf, then. So no doubt about it.

I read a biography of Baer several years ago, and remember the author criticizing Schaaf’s handlers for the way they matched him. He was brutally KO’d by Baer in the return, but wasn’t allowed any rest, which led to the fatal Carnera encounter.

Otherwise, the book was loaded with amusing stories. Baer was an entertainer inside the ring, but even more outside of it.
