  • Daniel Mendoza Question

I have been doing some research on bare-knuckle boxers as Tom Sayers, Joe Goss, Jem Mace, and Paddington Tom Jones. Unfortunately, i have seen some conflicting records data. The one i am most interested in is the accuracy that Daniel Mendoza won English titles in the lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, and heavyweight divisions. Sources as Cyberzone report it, yet others only report the middleweight and heavyweight titles. Mendoza was reported as always weighing around 160 while standing 5 feet 7. Perhaps there is only sketchy data that he fought under the middleweight division?

As a side note, i am assuming that most in the history agree that both Mendoza and Mace belong among the greatest british born fighters. I took slack for putting Froch ahead of Hatton about two years ago, i guess that pick is not that bad after all?

I've always only read that he fought from Middleweight to Heavyweight, have never read him being under that but obviously with it being from so long ago a lot of data will be missing and might only just be showing up ?, I'm not so sure, not really well versed on that era.

Wouldn't really rate them among the Greatest British Born fighters as they're from a completely different sport then the one we see today, they're obviously Pioneers who helped develop the sport a great deal and deserve honorable mentions for what they did and achieved, but they shouldn't be ranked among modern day boxers.

Froch is pretty clearly ahead of Hatton now.
