A very underrated fighter. If it wasn't for an unreliable chin, he'd be thought of as one of the very best smaller weight fighters of the last 20 years. Jones would have been a top fighter in any era.

Yeah his chin was a real weak point. He was stopped in 4 by 18-18 Darryl Pinckney 2 years before the Barrera fights.

I was also quite shocked Paul Ingle stopped even do he was past his best.

It is quite surprising how Barrera could never handle him.

Can I copy and paste my response from the Kevin Kelly thread.

"He had pretty good skills coming up. Brawling and getting to too many exchanges was his downfall though. He spent a long time at #1 waiting for a shot. When he finally won the title he didn't hold it long because he chose to punch instead of box with the tough John M. Johnson."

Just changed the name at the end.

Ironic but Kelly and Jones both were brought up through the MSG stable of boxers(as was Aaron Davis and several others). I remember HBO doing a bit on Jones and Kelly and how they were two of the top p4p fighters. Must have been a curse because they both lost their next fight.

Anyways, Jones completely suprised me in the Barrera fights, which were probably Junior Jones' finest hours. If he chose to trade with Barrera I imagine it would have been alot different.

Good fighter even though basically his entire career was made off beating Barrera twice

He also beat the great Orlando Canizales. And held wins over the 26-0 Jorge Eliecer Julio, Tom Johnson, & Tracy Harris Patterson.

He also beat a still very solid Orlando Canizales. I also think he couldve beaten Mckinney if he wouldve relaxed and box. also his win over Jorge Eliecer Julio was good. Jones was almost like a bantamweight version of roger mayweather

Forgot about Canizales. But Johnson and Patterson were both washed up when Jones beat them

LMAO. So you want us to just forget about his Barrera & Canizales wins?

When did I say you should forget about anything? I first said his entire career was his 2 wins against Barrera(there is nothing wrong with that), I was wrong because I had forgotten about Canizales.
