It was a great year, but 1982 was much better-

Holmes-Cooney (ummm, Gerry Cooney was on the cover of TIME Magazine)

    Pryor-Arguello

    Gomez-Pintor

    Chacon-Limon IV

    Sanchez-Nelson

    Benitez-Duran

    Hearns-Benitez

    Mancini-Kim

    Limon-Navarette

NFL Football went on strike for 3-4 weeks and CBS and NBC used boxing to fill the void.

Hagler, Hearns, Pryor, Arguello, Holmes, Spinks, Braxton, Leonard, Sanchez, Gomez, Leonard, Chandler were all active in that year.

Meh Arguello vs Pryor is the only ATG fight on that list 2000 has IMO 3 of the top 20 fights of the last 40 years(Morales Barrera Vargas Trinidad and Ward Neary)

Oh and there were just as many HOFs active in 2000 Jones, Hopkins, Lewis, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Barrera, Morales, Lopez, Wlad, Mosley, Trinidad, De La Hoya, Winky, Tapia, Toney

Yeah, Ward-Neary is as revered and remembered throughout boxing history as Gomez-Pintor and Chacon-Limon IV. Are you actually serious with that?

Don't get me wrong, 2000 was a great year to be a fight fan, but 1982 had the fights, the fighters, and the HAPPENINGS that 2000 could never match.

Here's the difference- I followed boxing in both '82 and 2000, while you just MAY HAVE actually been following it in 2000. So, that makes me speak from a better base than you, especially when you combine that with my superior ability to decipher what i'm watching, and superior logic and common sense!

Forget the hype and fighters watch the fights and judge the action, Neary vs Ward is simply better in my opinion

Let's just say Ward-neary even approached those fights in terms of pure action....it did not carry their (especially Gomez-Pintor) signficance.

In 1990, at the Blue Horizon, I saw a war between two ordinary guys that I would say had way more action than Ward-Neary, but you won't see me saying it was "better" than Ward-Neary.
