  • Why Ron Lyle Is 1 Of My Favs.

This is a man who didn't start boxing until his Late 20's while in jail.

He comes out and after only boxing a short while is already on the USA Amatuer team and he then KO's a Russian who was considered one of the best amatuers in the world.

Lyle was a true freak of nature. Who never backed down from no one. It's a shame he never won a title but he was the fans champion. He was so exciting. His fights with Foreman & Shavers are some of the most exciting fights of all time

He came so close to beating the greatest HW of all time in Ali, he was ahead on ALL scorecards going into the 11th but was evetually stopped.

He was so close to knocking out Foreman when Foreman was flat faced on the ground but the bell rang.

He never avoided no one and always gave it his all. He beat Buster Mathis, Jose Luis Garcia, Oscar Bonavena, Jimmy Ellis, Earnie Shavers, Joe Bugner, & Scott LeDoux.

Lyle is truely one of the most exciting fighters of all time. And I was thinking the other about a Frazier match up. And I feel he may have had a very good chance over Frazier.

    I saw Lyle train

I saw Lyle train twice. Once before his fight against Jerry Quarry. I knew he was too slow and inexperienced to handle Jerry at that stage of his career. He took that loss and went on to become a much improved fighter. His fight against Bonavena honestly could have been called a draw and perhaps it were not in his hometown of Denver it would have been. His fights against Shavers and of course Foreman were classics. Norton was terrified of him and would never fight him. Against Cooney, he was just there for one final payday and didn't train very hard at all. He knew his career was pretty much over. Yes, Lyle was good; very, very good.
