Funny, he reminds me a lot of Buster Douglas. He had tremendous skill a la Buster but he was just lazy and an underachiever. He was sort-of a shooting star as opposed to being a great fighter. Evander Holyfield was a much better fighter even though Bowe holds 2 wins over him. At Rid****'s best I think he could've held his own over any heavyweight in history. It's just too bad he'll just be remembered for a short prime and going to the same public school as Mike Tyson. I also think it's a shame that he had so publicly ducked his rival Lennox Lewis.

And I'm confident that I'm speaking for the majority here saying that we can do without your vulgar references to "extra long pubic hair".
But good luck with your vendetta against all the large foreign heavyweight that you feel threatened by.

Bowe has more in common with someoneone like Douglas than he does with any of the bonafide greats of that era. His entire legacy rests on the Holyfield fights and a whole lot of suppositional wishmaking. One great night doesn't erase a career of subpar performances against fighters whom on paper he should have beaten emphatically. I'll agree that Bowe's inside game was very good, but as a big man the fact that he had to fight so much on the inside in the first place is a negative point against him. He simply didn't possess the boxing brain to maintain a fight at distance and make use of his physical advantages like Lennox did, and the reason he got brain damaged so early IMO was due to his horrendous defence that had him eating punches like big macs. It's all well and good saying he never lived up to his potential, but the same can be said of many fighters who don't get half the adoration and undue praise this guy gets.

Bowe seemingly had all the attributes of a champion fighter. Big, strong, athletic, quick hands, a terrific chin and heaps of bravery. Unfortunately he was severely lacking in dedication and professionalism.
A dedicated fighter with Bowe's abilities would not have been so easy to hit. I'm sure Bowe's trainers must have torn their hair out trying to get their man to remain focussed in training. I mean, defence isn't a difficult skill to learn - if you are willing to learn.
For me the writing was on the wall around the time of the Herbie Hide fight. The record shows that Bowe triumphed easily knocking a blown-up cruiserweight around the ring like a rag doll. But if you watch the fight it's pretty obvious that Hide's speed caused Bowe more than a few difficulties and had he the size to back up his quick hands Bowe would have been in real trouble.
The Golota fights are painful to watch. I give Bowe enormous credit for standing firm in the face of brutal bombardment (as well as getting himself in shape for the second fight) but he was eating punches many of which you'd expect amateur boxers to block.
Bowe is the archetypal "could have been" fighter. In another life he might well have dominated the heavyweight division for the best part of a decade. But as things stand his career will almost universally be regarded as a disappointment.

I'll leave out unproven prospects like Helenius, but I will add Wach just to piss off that other idiot.
