Because "History" likes to add alot of drama, people who dont know boxing will say oh Ali is the best. Why? Because they hear it 10000times. Well if everyone says it than it must be true right? BZZZZT

Tyson
cRocky Marciano
etc.

People like to dwell on the past with the older fighters, yet people need to realize just because you hear it doesnt make it true.

You have to look back and compare the period of the time, the rules of the time, the training of the time, the cheating of the period, the competition level in the period.

Is it really that impressive if you are knocking out bums before or after World War 2 in a system that is corrupt and where there is no amateur system to weed out the bad athletes?

is it that impressive that there was no talent pool to choose from except "hey u look tuff u wanna fight?"

Is it that impressive that you fought a fight against a dude who works 14 hours each day at a Coal Mine and is 40 years old?

Im more impressed with guys who have went thru the amateurs where people get weeded out and then move on to the proffesionals.

I have been consistent in my views for a long time and I will say again that Boxing Pre 1950's or even 1960's need to be classified as old school era and leave it at that because none of those fighters fought in a normal era where

1) Strict Testing
2) Strict Commisions
3) Strict Diets
4) Great Doctors
5) Amateur System
6) No Fixed Fights
7) Level of competition is 1000% Higher
8) No 40 year old bums in almost every fight
9) Usually no Part Time Boxers


If I had it my way I would burn the Boxing History Books before the 1960's since its a completely different SPORT than it is today and to even mention bums like Marciano is a complete JOKE.

Just because people say something enough times, doesn't make it true.

But I guess Jesse Owens can run 100m as fast as Usain Bolt? oh wait.....

People still havent realized that ALL sports EVOLVE and so do their Athletes.

But these Boxing ******s think Boxing is immune and that some bar drunk from the 30's was some amazing fighter and would be anything better than a Journeyman today.

Im saying 1960's + is because we ACTUALLY HAVE VIDEO PROOF of virtually all big fights and good fighters.

Not newspaper clippings and grainy 30sec videos narrated by a 90 year old white dude.

Before boxing moves on to the next generation we need to clean all the old farts out of boxing.

That's right mate,......... they forget about the fact that in those and just about every other sport apart from Rugby League, boxers have people bashing them in the body and head.......... and you know the old saying, gee he looked great, right up until he got knocked out cold.

Possibly, but this place should IMO be flame free. I don't think it's right to post this with the intention of giving the history posters a collective laugh at another posters expense. Nobody questions Poets knowledge of the sport, and we don't need to see a random NSB post to get the message. Either break the post down in the original thread or laugh at it in the dome.

As for the post quoted itself the nice thing is that at least the poster made an effort to make his point.
