  • When was the Heavyweight division the strongest...

I know most will say the early '70's but the early to mid '90's were pretty strong, too... And if Tyson hadn't gone to jail it would've been the best IMO...

I agree the early 70's was a great time for the heavyweight divison. But i also agree that if tyson didnt go to jail the early to mid 90's would of been the best of the best the heavyweights.
1990-Tyson lost the championship to douglas in.
This is what i think would have happened:
1990-Holyfield vs douglas for the titles in which this happened and blew away the out of shape douglas(wasnt the same guy that fought his heart out against tyson)
1991-Holyfield vs foreman holmes and Cooper-title defence(Cooper had holyfield in alot of trouble early in the fight)
1991-Tyson vs ruddock no 1 contender match- 1 and 2 which happend good fights (tyson won).
1992-Tyson vs holyfield for the titles- i have tyson winning this by UD
1992-Lewis vs rudduck (Lewis destroys rudduck but i think the tyson fights took alot out of rudduck wasnt the same boxer)
1992- Tyson vs foreman title defence- Tyson wins UD
1992- Lewis vs Bowe no 1 contender match (Bowe wins KO)
1993- Tyson vs Bowe championship match (Tyson wins UD)
1993- Holyfield vs Lewis no1 contenders match-(Holyfiled wins UD)
1993- Tyson vs Holyfield 2-(Tyson wins UD again)
1994- Tyson vs Moorer (Tyson wins KO 8th round)
1994- Tyson vs Lewis (Tyson wins TKO round 2)
1995- Tyson vs McCall (Tyson wins UD)
1995- Tyson vs Bruno 2 (Tyson wins KO round 3)
vs mercer and morrison TKO's both.
At the end of 1995 i have Tyson Undisputed champion. Would of been the best era.

The 90s were deep, yes (unlike the 70s though, too many matches werent getting made) but Tyson alone wouldnt have matched that time against the golden 70s, which is simply peerless from an historical perspective.

Tyson would have still lost to Holyfield.
Bowe would have still ducked Lennox.
1994 Lennox would have beaten 1994 Tyson.
It still wouldn't have topped the 1970's.

Nohing touches the 70's,simply because all the big fights were happening and the best were facing the best, the 90's was deep but with Bowe ducking Lewis etc it wasnt as great as it could have been

If either of these fights went to decision it would not have been Tyson winning them.

              Three strongest Eras

              1. 1988-2003 Lennox/Holyfield/Tyson/klitschko/Bowe/Sanders
              2. 1964-1978 Ali/Foreman/Frazier
              3. 1926-1938 Tunney/Louis/Baer/Schmelling

              Three weakest Eras

1939-1960 Bum of the month era
              1979-1987 Holmes/Berbick era
              2004-2012 Wlad/Ray Austin/sosnoski era

^^^^This. The nineties lose because of lesser greats and even lesser fights between the greats.

I couldn't agree more even though I'm of Generation X and would always stick up for it! Tyson going to jail was the first major nail in the coffin. The second was Bowe ducking Lewis. The way things went surely benefited Lewis the most. He sure wasn't the most talented fighter of the era. That distinction belongs to Tyson. But, Lewis hooking up with Steward was the smartest thing he'd ever done. In the end, you'd have to say he was the best of the era due to his accomplishments. Holyfield came in second and Tyson came in third. If Tyson hadn't had all those years of inactivity and lost his focus, he surely wouldn't have lost to Lewis and probably not even Holyfield.

Furthermore, there's no way a '94 Lewis would beat a '94 Tyson. Mike would've starched him worse than McCall did. Lewis in '94 wasn't nearly the fighter he was in the late '90's & early 2000's...
