Vitali has no clue how to do that. He just leans back and his opponent can't reach him. 99% of his opponents that is. Unfortunately for him, Lewis had no problem reaching his face with his fists and proceeded to hit him with the most brutal punches he ever got hit with in his career.
The horrible cuts were the result of that.

Lewis had won the last two rounds before the stoppage: That's hardly Vitali "being on his way to stopping him". The first four rounds does not a fight make.
