    R.I.P. - Billy Costello

I just heard word that Former WBC light welterweight champ and Kingston, NY native, Billy Costello, passed away.

    He was only 55.

Billy Costello, a Kingston resident and a former World Boxing Council junior welterweight champion, died on Wednesday morning at Benedictine Hospital at the age of 55.Costello had been fighting lung cancer since April 2010.

"Billy took it like a champ, right from the beginning," said friend and former trainer Lou Fusco. "He never gave up. He never complained."
As a professional, Costello won 40 of his 42 fights, with many of them coming in front of sell-out crowds at Kingston's Midtown Neighborhood Center.

Our thoughts and prayers goes out to his family and loved ones.

    Henry

Thanks for posting & letting us know hhascup

Always such sad news to hear of another fighter passing on. Aways a shock also.
The book "Black Lights" was a good one that had oodles of Bill Costello material in it. That book made me like him even more.

Prayers for the Lord to comfort his family & friends. May he be resting in peace....

That is sad. I remember his fights vividly and he was a very likable fighter.
      RIP Champ

That was a very good book Terry. And of course I also mourn the loss. I saw Costello fight a lot. The most memorable one for me was when he was schooling a badly faded Alexis Arguello for three rounds, only to get put to sleep in the 4th round.
