Overall it was a close fight but, on a rounds basis Hagler took it.

The fact that the 5'7 chubby little duran @ middleweight could hang for 15 rounds with hagler and even wobble him a few times is a testament to duran's legacy.

I think anyone who disputes that is out of their mind and a hater. But as far as the actual score, Hagler controlled almost every round. They were fairly close rounds for the most part, though, and that is impressive in and of itself.

Who's up for replacing "Close fight" with "competitive fight"?

            I agree with this.

Some people try to make this fight a knock on Hagler's legacy not being able to finish a past prime, blown up LW, but the story of the fight was Hagler winning a clear decision, but Duran gaining a moral victory.

The rounds themselves were close and very competitive, but the scorecards shouldn't have been. There were some rounds that could have gone either way, but I thought Hagler still won most of them in my opinion.

There you go. And if you factor in the mindset of that time, you can add "surprisingly" to the competitive fight. The expectation was that Hagler would win big.

to me this is something like juan manuel marquez squaring off against arthur abraham @MW...

except that abraham is not a top 5 MW ATG material...

duran was really an excellent fighter...
