  • 2 Billion: Should boxing go back to being 15 rounds?

15 rounds have given us some of the greatest fights of all time. Imagine in his tory if 12 rounds had been the case, Marciano would have lost to Walcott, Ali might have lost a decision to Frazier, and Sugar ray Leonard would not have been able to come back aganist Hearns, those last 3 rounds allowed a fighter to show "championship" quality and come back to win fights.

So who agrees with me, should boxing be 15 rounds?

Those extra 3roumds tests heart, endurance and stamina. They are key rounds in determining how badly someone wants to win. But now for "safety reasons" it's twelve rounds. By safety reasons I mean ***** ****.

You can't necessarily say that the outcomes would have been different... Marciano, Leonard, and Ali may very well have adapted their strategies to the shorter duration and won the fights anyways.

With that being said, I greatly prefer 15 round fights. Not going to happen, though, even though the reason for the switch to 12-rounders was ridiculous (Koo-Kim wasn't the first man to die in the ring... and most ring fatalities have happened inside of the first 12 rounds).

        Damn right it should.

More rounds, less titles. Ya dig?

12 rounds is plenty. Risk of serious injury grows as fatigue sets in over 9 extra minutes. Leave as is.

Meh a great fight is going to be a great fight sure 3 extra rounds would enhance it some but it would still be great. But imagine all the crappy fights that would drag on for another 3 rounds. 12 rounds is good for boxing.

That article is spot-on. Duk Koo Kim died precisely because he dehydrated himself to make weight leaving him vulnerable.

The solution is simple: If you have to kill yourself to make weight you have no business fighting in that weight class period. If you can't make weight naturally then fight in a weight class where you can.....simple as.
