Look what resulted when he started to lose his legs and reflexes. In contrast, look at Ali in the early-mid 70s.

Normally broadcasters are not promotors, so I'm quite surprised that they know which fights was offered to who. Have they also revealed what kind of purses Jones' alleged opponents was offered or are we up front to assume that Jones ridiculously lowballed them?

But that was a style thing. Their style is for a fighter who plans to retire in their early 30's

Liles really should of been much more active than he was 7 defenses in 5 years? Even the Pride of Wales was more active than that
Nunn was my fav. BITD when he was champ at 160. I was so hoping he'd land a fight against the Leonard-Hearns II winner. I hated it when Leonard chose Duran instead.

Considering the skills and speed Nunn displayed in those years, he can only be perceived as one of the great underachievers. Such a shame. A Jones-Nunn fight cold have been epic.... or it could have been a boring chessmatch. In any case a 50/50 fight for me.

Hmmm..... Considering the timeperiod you mention, you really need to include Leonard, Hearns and Duran IMO.

Ali had the grounding in the basics to adjust and continue at an elite level. Jones didn't. Jones' style wouldn't work for anyone else but him. He was just a superb athlete that ended up in boxing, as opposed to a true boxer.

Jones' durability also let him down in the later stages of his career, but the weight he lost after fighting Ruiz may have had something to do with it.
