  • Joe Frazier right hand

Did Frazier have some kind of problem with his right arm? Why is it he rarely ever used it in fights?

When I think of Joe Frazier's right I think of one of Boxings most under-rated punches. Ask any of his rivals & they would tell you they certainly never came away with sore ribs on just the one side of their body...no, Sir.

Joe Frazier had a decent right hand. Matter of fact he is right handed. I remember him telling a story about when he was a kid he fell out of the tree and broke his arm. He didn't go to the doctor and his arm did not heal right and one of his arms is shorter than the other. I have all of Joe Frazier fights and he use to rip the body with that right hand. He will bob and weave his way in using the left jab as a range finder come in using the right to the body and his patented left hook to the head or body. I just love watching this man fight. His work ethic in the ring was ridiculous.

            The first Ali/Frazier fight. That was Frazier's best performance. Frazier/Quarry I & II. Frazier/Mathis, and Frazier/Ellis I.

The right hand to the ribs was a savage punch. He used it a lot in FOTC.

Frazier used his right hand very well to the body and I'd be believe it to be very effective. It's just that you have a guy who certainly had a great left hook, and could time it and land it well with power with consistency, he's probably going to fall in love with that punch, and when you do so, everything else will be a bit overshadowed.

Frazier's right was pretty good. It just wasn't nearly as good as his left. But it certainly was more useful than someone like Gerry Cooney's.
