One simple reason: to keep a fighter warm through introduction. There is nothing worse than warming up then cooling back down before having to start. It takes longer to warm up again and you start out stiffer than normal.

So idiotic fans like The Surgeon could stumble around shadow boxing in their living room at 4am after a big fight on tv, steaming drunk wearing their Balboa robe and signed Tyson glove boring their mates with boxing knowledge?

They also make a hell of a gift. I got a signed Robe for Christmas and one for my birthday. Satin sure is comfy as hell! hahaha

    good question though
made me immediately think of this from the Rocky movie, where Paulie found a 'sponsor' for Rocky

The robes were to keep the fighter warm after his warmup while he made his entrance and waited to be announced.
