  • What "tricks" do you see your favorite fighters use?

After watching a fighter for a long time, you start to pick up on little tricks he has, little stylistic things he does. What are some that you've noticed?

Barrera's got a bunch that are pretty easy to spot. He like to throw a lazy jab, wait for the counter and then counter that back with a much harder jab. Sort of a pull counter, but with the jab instead of the head fake. Also, if he sees a looping shot coming, he throws an elbow down and rolls his chin before it impacts. He does the same chin roll as he throws his jab.

Marquez likes to do the same "lazy punch" counter that Barrera does, only he does it with a left uppercut from range and then a straight or overhand right, depending on where the guard is. If that one lands, he'll throw the left uppercut again, with much more conviction. Also, he rope-a-dopes really well, but he doesn't wait for you to get tired, he just throws counter-uppercut after counter-uppercut.

I haven't watched Chavez in a while, but one thing I do remember is what I call a "tracking right." Don't know if there's a real term for it, but he made up for occasionally slow feet by squaring up his shoulders with a guy moving to the right and throwing a straight right to herd his man back into a left hook. Castillo did the same thing a lot.
