Nelson definitely showed he had the ability to win, a lot of conditions surrounding that fight went wrong for him (stolen mouthguard, etc.) and he was just plain inexperienced. Of course Sanchez could potentially have adjusted as well.

i think sanchez adjusted well in the second half of the fight. His right wasnt as effective as it usually was. But sanchez started landing a great counter hook. Yet the rematch could have been a 12 rd fight cause the wbc change the rule in 1983, maybe that couldve helpes Nelson

Azumah only had 13 fights when he fought sanchez!!!! and only 2 of those 13 opponants had more than 10 wins to their credit!!!!! sanchez had 40 or more fights under his belt when he fought Nelson. Also Nelson had never gone past 10 rounds in his career! Scores at the time of stoppage in the 15 round where only about 2 to 3 points apart!!! Lucky a rematch never happened!!!
