The Gentleman of Boxing...Bustin' heads: Floyd Patterson Highlight Video

(I posted this in the non-stop forum earlier, but it predictably sunk, given that it wasn't about Mayweather or Pacquiao )

I just found this highlight this morning and had to share. One of my favorite fighters, Floyd Patterson, seems to get remembered by too many for his later career, the Liston fights, Ali fights, etc. What a shame that is. This guy was an awesome athlete in his prime. Powerful, lightning fast, highly skilled, a man Muhammad Ali called the most skilled boxer he ever faced (on Ali's record, that's a hell of a compliment, to say the least). A gentleman outside the ring, a predator inside. Floyd Patterson, bustin' heads:

...Awful. I got one comment on the regular forum for a Patterson video and zero comments for the history forum. That is truly, truly sad. I'm going to go flagellate myself in front of my Floyd Patterson shrine now. Pardon me.

Excellent video of an Excellent fighter and a true champion.. a few months ago i got into a rather heated debate on this forum by defending Floyd Patterson as an ATG Top 15 Heavyweight.. some of the comments made against him was unbelievable because the naysayers only ever see his KO losses to Sonny Liston and use those two losses to define the fighters whole career and rubbish all his great achievements along with claiming he would be too small or not heavy enough, yet the reality of it is that with Floyd Pattersons unbelievable speed and boxing ability his size would be immaterial against bigger heavier fighters as speed kills.

I was fortunate enough to meet him in 1992 at the Ruddock vs Lewis fight in London, he signed his autograph to my young son on the fight program for me and looked as young as he did in his fighting days.. a real gentleman and hero.

I had a dream once that I met Patterson in the streets of Brooklyn and he said I only sign autographs to colored folk

That leaping left hook is certainly a sight to behold. Razor Rudduck used to throw a similar punch but not with the same success rate as Patterson.

I have been in the "champion Floyd against everyone" position, seemingly, several times. I've argued about how as I see it, more often than not, size is self-limiting. I can empathize, mate.

He was pretty big to be pulling the gazelle-type punches with the same success lol.
