  • Luisito Espinosa

Anybody among you knows this Filipino fighter whom we pinoys referred to as king louie. He was the most popular fighter here before the emergence of pacquiao.

Here are some highlights of his career. He's still fought after espadas but not the same fighter anymore.

1989 - Luisito Espinosa vs. Kaokor Galaxy (the Thai living legend zero loss) for the WBA Bantamweight Championship of the World. Espinosa KO's Galaxy a few seconds in the 1st round!!!
1990 - Luisito Espinosa vs. Hurley Snead for the WBA Bantamweight Championship of the World. Snead said he'll de-mystify Louie's so-called "phantom punch" that KO'd Galaxy - he never did! He got KD'd a few seconds in the 1st round just like Galaxy. TKO in rd. 8
1990 - Luisito Espinosa vs. Thanomsak Sithbaobey for the WBA Bantamweight Championship of the World. This Thai is made of granite! Beaten black and blue and still standing. Espinosa wins by UD.
1996 - Luisito Espinosa vs. Manuel "Mantecas" Medina for the WBC Featherweight Championship of the World. Espinosa handed "Mantecas" 12 rounds of pain. Mantecas right eye swollen the size of a baseball!!!
1996 - Luisito Espinosa vs. Alejandro "Cobrita" Gonzales for the WBC Featherweight Championship of the World. Espinosa KO's "Cobrita" with a left hook-right straight combo..."Cobrita" was rushed to the nearest hospital couldn't get up!!!
1997 - Luisito Espinosa vs. Cesar "Cobra" Soto for the WBC Featherweight Cahmpionship of the World. Luisito taught "Cobra" a "neat boxing lesson, was very lucky didn't KO'd" coming from the mouth of Jose Sulaiman (You know this guy?). Espinosa wins by UD.
1997 - Luisito Espinosa vs. Manuel "Mantecas" Medina for the WBC Featherweight Cahmpionship of the World. Espinosa wins by TD...the doctors stopped the fight because of severe cuts on King Louie and then judges referred to their scorecards (he was leading on all of 'em)...by the book.
1998 - Luisito Espinosa vs. Carlos "El Maso" Rios for the WBC Featherweight Championship of the World. "I will KO your champ with one punch! and bring that green belt to Argentina!" Well, "El Maso" got KD 4 times ... don't cry for me Argentina!
1998 - Luisito Espinosa vs. Kennedy McKinney for the WBC Featherweight Championship of the World. "I want Hamed!" this guy McKinney was so confident he'll KO the King with his "trusted" right hand and go on meet the Clown Prince from England! Turned his back on King Louie during the ref's intro of rules...well Louie gave McKinney his WORST beating...got smacked with a BIGGG left hook and a BIGGG right straight...he lasted 2 rounds only. and this guy handed Barrera one of his worst nightmares?
1998 - Luisito Espinosa vs. Juan Carlos "Ranchero" Ramirez for the WBC Featherweight Championship of the World. Taught this upcoming fighter a neat boxing lesson except for the later rounds when he got Louie in trouble...Espinosa wins by UD.
1999 - Luisito Espinosa vs. Cesar "Cobra" Soto for the WBC Featherweight Championship of the World. 12 rounds of non-stop action...Espinosa going toe-to-toe with this little "Cobra"...accusing Louie of running in the 1st fight, fought him head-on...no KD's...Espinosa lost his belt by UD! (the Mafia finally caught up with the King!) Personally, he's still my champ!
2000 - Luisito Espinosa vs. Guty Espadas for the vacant WBC Featherweight Championship of the World. The King got KD'd in the early rounds but this young Aztec warrior just can't finish him off...showing the heart of a lion Espi fought back going toe-to-toe looking to KO this very determined fighter. Hats off to Guty Espadas he won't be denied, he's the better man on this night and for showing RESPECT for the King!

Thanks to mr. bojangles(not the other bojangles poster) for this highlights.

Nice guy too. He used to train fighters at this gym, and he helped me a bit with my stance and did pad work with me. I told him I recently watched the video of him beating McKinney and he laughed and said thanks. A shame how much money he lost from sleazy promoters and his ex-wife.

Props to the guy who started this thread and posted up them youtube fight videos of Luisito Espinosa i was at that fight and it was still to this day the only boxing fight i have ever been to and i loved it.The tickets were only like 25 bucks back in 1998 when the Espinosa vs Mckinney fight took place it was the co-feature to the Tzysu vs Hurtado fight and i remember being star struck seeing Roy Jones jr at ringside doing the broadcast and laughing at the fine ass groupies jocking him lol another thing which was awesome for me at that time being only like 19 years old was seeing Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant inside the small casino and i also remember seeing the Ruelas brothers there at ringside too and trainer Joe Goosen. What made the night better was meeting both Sugar Shane Mosley and his dad Jack Mosley outside the casino they both were very cool people.
