If he had stayed focus and disciplined?
Could Michael Nunn Have Been A ATG?

Well he didn't have the things he needed to become an ATG, and you named them focus and discipline. He was what he was, no more no less, boxing is as mental as it is physical.Comment

For sure.
But what's perhaps more important is that Nunn didn't get the career defining fight that he needed. The thing is that Nunn was one of the frontrunners to fight the winner of Leonard-Hearns II. Most of you recall that the fight was a draw and Leonard went for a ridiculous rubber match with Duran instead.
Had Nunn got a shot at Leonard or Hearns I'd have favoured him to win and that would have taken his career to another level.Comment

But yea, I remember good old Micheal 2nd to Nunn. He and good old Terrible Terry Norris used to be my fighter's there.Comment

True indeed Bat. But that was towards the end of Ray and Tommy's career, so I dont think it would've had the full impact of either's name on his resume. But I do agree, it would've heightened his visability in the sport, and probably forced him to stay dedicated and focused.

As you say it's speculation wheter a win would have kept Nunn focused, but as a big Nunn fan I have to think it would.Comment

Nunn could of been a superstar, by the time he had left Ten Goose and joined with Dundee his life was starting to unravel. He should never of been aloud to spend as much time with his friends as he did, and when he went back to davenport for the Toney fight he was in no shape physically or mentally to fight the likes of Toney.
Yet he still was ahead on the cards and at times played with Toney before the inevitible happened.
But despite him being my all time favourite boxer, I have to agree with RubenSonny and say that he was who he was and at some point it was all going to go wrong. He never had that mental toughness or intense desire to be truly great and he enjoyed the good life too much.
Same reason Tyson never achieved what he should of, that's why many less physically gifted boxers than Tyson and Nunn go on to achieve a far higher level of greatness.Comment
