Muhammad Ali: Easy Handpicked Fights “Can Ruin A Fighter”

“I started believing I couldn’t be whipped. After losing to Frazier, I’d won a lot of easy fights against Blue Lewis, Henry Cooper, Buster Mathis, Jurgen Blin and Jerry Quarry,” said the former world Heavyweight champion. “I didn’t have to train hard and discipline myself in order to win. I learned that too many easy victories can ruin a fighter just like a long line of defeats. You start thinking your name alone will win. You forget all the sacrifices that go into winning.”
The Greatest of all, Muhammad Ali stated this very interesting quote which was chronicled in Alan Goldstein’s “Muhammad Ali” coffee table style photo book.
So Al Haymon should realize that all these easy fights he sets up for Andre Berto and his other manufactured pretenders are only going to blow up in the end.

All pretty well known information. Ali was most dedicated when he had something to prove, not when he was on top.

I'm really thinking off how it applies to other fighters who fought a lot of soft opponents, guys like Hatton etc

He's right. And as for Berto its doing him no favours, he should have rematched Collazo by now, a fight like his first one with Collazo tends to make a young fighter better, toughens them up, gives them confidence and experiance but all these gimmie fights only build a false sense of ability and like Ali says a tendincy to think u dont need to give that extra 10% in training

Whats Berto's explanation for that fight not happening?

Havent heard one! Berto can fight but he lacks balls, Collazo earned a rematch and Cintron has been punkking him for ages now

I think I had Collazo winning by one point.

As for Cintron after the jumping bean incident he needs to just go away

                    Lol jumping bean

Cintron is a real test for Berto tho, he can hit like a MW and has decent technique as well as a size advantage, matter of fact id pick him to win!

Point is tho Cintron has been calling him out, both privatley with his manager and publicly, if Berto had the stones he'd shut Cintron up
