Good boxer with a very big punch and under rated defence.

He could of been greater if he fought the other great boxers around his weight like Orlando Canizales, Raul Perez, Wilfredo Vasquez, Sung-kil Moon, Jiro Watanabe, Gilberto Roman and others.

His resume doesn't pull through for him at all his best win is what, a way past it Orano ?, that's awful considering the people he could of fought.

Watanabe ducked him, don't see any excuse for him not fighting the others other then him or his promoters wanting to stay in his own country.

Khaosai Galaxy is a former professional Thai super flyweight boxer and Muaythai kickboxer. Khaosai defended his WBA world title 19 times in seven years (1984-1991), winning 16 of his title fights by knockouts. A member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame he is widely considered as one of the greatest boxing champions of all time. He is listed #19 on Ring Magazine's list of 100 greatest punchers of all time.
      Muay Thai career

Khaosai was born as Sura Saenkham in Phetchabun province, Thailand. He was a Muay Thai fighter in the early 1980s, and took the professional name Galaxy from a nightclub owned by his manager. Khaosai had tremendous punching power, particularly in his soon-to-be legendary left hand. On the advice of his manager and trainer, he switched to Marquis of Queensbury style and began training as a western style boxer.

In Muay Thai his ring name is Daoden Muangsithep and Khaosai Wangchomphu.
      Boxing style

Lacking the amateur boxing experience common to most Western professional boxers, Khaosai's skills originally were limited, and he relied on toughness and his fearsome punching power to win. His southpaw style was based on closing his opponent and firing his left hand whenever he saw an opening. His right hand was used mainly to judge the distance for his left. All of his knockouts came by his left, which is arguably the hardest single punch in the history of the lower weight classes.

I've never actually watched that much of him. I'm downloading a couple of fights off of sweet boxing, but which would you recommend? No spoilers!

a very big puncher, but somewhat overrated based on his accomplishments. he missed out and did not end up fighting a lot of the top guys around at the time.

he had a lot of title defenses, but a large amount of them were over guys that were not even top ten.

Two great posts by Sonnyboy and NChristo, rightly concluding that he was a massive puncher with a disappointing resume..

Roman had 2 spells as WBC super-fly champ for most of the time Galaxy had the WBA strap and imo fought in much better company eventually losing to Moon, but somehow, Galaxy never faced either of them.. Jiro Wantanabe was champ just b4 Khaosai, but was stripped by the WBA for refusing to defend against him.. Galaxy then captured the vacant title by knocking out the unbeaten Eusebio Espinal..
Vasquez, Canizales and Perez were all a tadge bigger, mainly campaigning in the bantams, and i believe Vasquez dropped a close decision to Galaxy's brother Khaocor who was a two time champ at BW..

Galaxy's adored in Thailand which is hardly suprising because he rarely fought anywhere else.. I personally think it's a shame because we'll never really know just how great he really was/wasn't..
