Depends on where they were born. In the city then yes, but if they were born in a rural era then no.....hell, I doubt there were cirth certificates for poor rural whites back in those days either. One of my grandfathers was born on a dirt-poor sharecropper farm in Alabama back around 1920 and I don't think he one :dunno9:

And there were always disputes about Liston's exact birthdate, Liston claiming to have been born in places his mother said the family neevr even visited...
I think the Cubans boxers who defect typically lie about their age because of the amount of time it may take for them to get an opportunity to leave. They are forced to lie because being older reduces your appeal to promoters to an extent. Take for instance Casamayor, clearly older than he made out.
