  • How does Jersey Joe Walcott fair against these fighters?

    Floyd Patterson
    Lennox Lewis
    Evander Holyfield
    Mike Tyson
    Rid**** Bowe
    Max Schmeling
    The Klitchko Brothers

Jersey Joe was a boxing master-class on his best day, how do you think he fares against these fighters?

if Rahman & McCall can poleaxe Lewis i would fancy Walcott to do the same as he is vastly superior to those two journeymen.. i would fancy Walcott over the Klitschko brothers and lose to the rest.

I'd feel good betting with Walcott beating Lewis, Schmeling, Patterson,, and the Klitschko brothers, and I think he'd probably go down against some of the more skilled, such as Bowe and Tyson, based not just on siz, but sheer power and physical advantages as well.

And Lewis "poleaxed" Razor Ruddock right after Ruddock went the distance with Mike Tyson.

For an experienced poster, you sure use a lot of "X beat Y so therefore Z beats Y" logic without regard for styles.

Ruddock was Damaged Goods after Tyson finished with him and in his fight with Lewis Ruddock never landed a single punch.

I've watched many of Ruddock's fights after Tyson- he was most certainly not "damaged goods". He was plenty competitive against Tommy Morrison.

Beats Floyd Patterson... Probably cracks him at some point with a counter as Floyd is coming in with combos

Loses to Lewis by TKO in the mid rounds, after figuring out his style.
Holyfield Outpoints him to a decision, although Walcott is very competitive and Holyfield wins a close decision

Gets blown away by Tyson, as Tyson is too fast and strong and hits too hard for Walcott to last long at all

Bowe has pretty much all the advantages against Walcott except counter punching and defense.. Still, Bowe probably overwhelmes him and wins by late TKO.

Schemlling if an interesting fight, because they are both very good counter punchers, I give Schemelling the edge in power and size of course, but Joe would be faster and be more defensive... Can't pick

              Don't know about the klits.

Technically Walcott beats all these guys with the exception of Patterson who is his equal.

However, he didn't have an amazing ability to absorb a tremendous punch......and he didn't do amazingly well against the larger heavyweight. Abe Simon being one example.

Patterson: Even match, either could win by KO or decision.

Lewis: Walcott has a punchers chance but I do shade Lewis by mid rounds KO here.

Holyfield: Late stoppage win for Holyfield after an even fight pointswise.

Mike Tyson: Good fight. Either Tyson early or a close Walcott points win if he gets past round 6.

Rid**** Bowe: Bowe by KO, early to mid rounds.

Max Schmelling: Mid rounds stoppage for Walcott. His game was better in just about every regard. To be honest if Walcott met the Louis that Schmelling beat Walcott would have annihilated Louis in an even more dominant fashion than Schmelling.

Wlad Klitschko: Walcott has a punchers chance and enough defensive smarts to make this last a few rounds. But I do favour Wlad here.

Vitali Klitschko: Mid to late rounds stoppage win for Vitali after being made to look very ordinary early on.

                  Patterson KO's Walcott
Lewis leaves the ring discombobulated and glossy eyed
Evander beats him in a close decision
                  Tyson KO's Walcott
                  Bowe KO's Walcott
                  Schmeling is KO'd by Walcott
                  Vlad is KO'd by Walcott
Vitali loses a decision to Walcott

Great analysis. But I do think Patterson is difficult to catch and is very fast. Patterson packed a deadly combination of speed and power.
