  • The Great Ted Kid Lewis

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CI03W2_El68

Standing Toe to Toe and exchanging blows with the much bigger Carpentier, in what looked to be one of the greatest fights in history in the making was cut short by a devastating right hand landing flush on the jaw.

Look at Ted Kid Lewis tell George to get away as he approached him in his corner.

Ted Kid Lewis is the greatest British fighter of all time. Agree or disagree?

Listen to the list of accomplishments of this man, yet he is never brought up in modern day conversation. No question he trumps Manny Pacquiao's accomplishments and head to head would knock him out at any weight.

Why bring Pacquaio into discussion ?. This has nothing to do with him, let's not turn the History section into NSB for **** sake.

Disagree, he's not the greatest British boxer.

I believe it was Kid that introduced the gum shield to the sport, something not many people know about him

I am simply making a point that the new means to greatness is by jumping weight, and Manny is the only one who has jumped through so many weight classes, as there is nobody else to use as an example. He is called the GOAT by some for beating guys like Clottey and Margarito who have 17lb weight advantage on fight night, yet Ted Kid Lewis yet Lewis was able to totally dismantle Tom Gummer who had a 55lb weight advantage and was a better quality matchup for Lewis.

I am not turning this into NSB, so please don't be so quick to try to accuse me of that.

Edit: And btw, it isn't possible for this section to be like NSB. The Pacquiao extremists do not come in here, so he can be brought up and talked about civilly in this section and used in comparison, even if it is negative, as we do with every other fighter throughout history. Unless you yourself are offended by what I said?

If people keep bringing him up then it will turn into NSB, it did a while back when we had like 4 Pacquaio threads at the top.
          Leave it until he's retired.

Why would I be offended at you mentioning him ?, I just don't like him being brought up because it will go like it did before, don't get upset over silly things on the internet.

Edit: Tom Gummer ? http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?hum...1671&cat=boxer This guy ?, yeah, fantastic match up.

55 pound weight advantage, and he's a puncher. He knocked Ted through the ropes. Watch the fight.

Lewis was probably pissed about being hit on the break. I'd say either him, Jimmy Wilde or Bob Fitzsimmons, depending on whether you count Fitz as a Brit.

Gummer was fighting for a middleweight title 10 months previous to the fight, I doubt he actually weighed 200 lbs and if he did weigh 200 lbs then he was getting knocked out by smaller opposition quite a lot it seemed.

Out of all the great boxers Kid faced, you tried to use Gummer as an example for a good quality match up?.

That is the point you honestly believe I was trying to make? Really? You do not get that I used him as an example because of the weight advantage?

How could you get that I was using him as example of great opposition, when I am talking about fighting bigger guys, and Gummer had a 55lb weight advantage? How could you not get that I brought him up strictly because of the weight advantage?

Sounds like trolling. Unless you truly were confused as to the point I was trying to make, but I don't see how you could honestly believe that is the point I was trying to make.

You carried on talking about Pacquaio for some strange reason, then you said that Tom Gummer is a "better quality match up" trying to make him seem like a good boxer.

Weight means nothing if the boxer is not skilled as well which he clearly wasn't, certainly wasn't a good quality match up.

By the way, seeing as he's already been brought up Pacquaio is seen as a great boxer because he has moved up in weight gaining paper titles and beating ranked opponents. The only people that see him as the greatest are his obsessive fans it's kind of the same way Tyson's obsessive fans see Tyson as unbeatable.
