Tony Zale Terrible Form From Mid 1934 to Early 1938?

Does anyone know why Zale was so bad round these years?

Having a look at his record and it shocked me. From mid 1934 to early 1938 he suffered some terrible results. He had 30 fights during this time lost 12 and drew 1.

In those losses, he suffered 3 KO defeats two back to back. At one point, out of 9 fights he won just two of them, losing 6 and drawing 1.

And to top it off in early 1938 was knocked out for the count by Jimmy Clark in just 1 round.

Wow, off this form who'd of ever thought Zale would go on to be world champ and a hall of famer.

Zale is a very underrated success story.

Zale must of really lost his spark round that time, i never really knew what to think of zale, gave the great billy conn all he could handle in a points defeat, had that great 3 fight series with graziano, but zale was matched well he was lucky not to fight archie moore, jake la motta, charley burley and holman williams all would of ended in bad results for the man of steele

Think from 38 Zale started being handled by Barney Ross's guys (names escape me at the mo) and they did better for him. Also don't think he had totally given up the steel mills before, so better team behind him and concentrating totally on boxing probably explains the improvement
