Yes, Lou Ambers was stripped of his title for his failure to fight Day. Davey Day would have been a champion in any era except his two world title opportunities, unfortunately for him, were against Henry Armstrong & Sammy Angott. Angott is considered the only man to beat a 'prime' Pep, and Day was good enough to defeat him.
