Capable, sturdy contender, whose somewhat obvious liabilities sometimes lead to his being a little bit under-estimated. Had Floyd Patterson's management not been so protective of their charge, there is a very decent chance Williams would be listed on the books as a former HW champion. A fight between Patterson & Williams in the late-50's or early-60's would've made for a close call.

In spite of some short-comings, Williams knew how to impose his boxing strengths on his rivals & won most of the fights he did in pretty convincing fashion, during what was a pretty deep era for the Heavyweights.
