  • Pete Rademacher

What if he had been built up like a real prospect? Instead of fighting Patterson on his debut? And getting rushed in from the start.

He never quite recovered from that loss, he even managed to deck Patterson to. And then in his second fights gets Zora Folley. He's then 0-2.

Lets say he's matched with a diet of journyman and club fighters, and is built up slowly. Does he end up a HW great or champion?

It's so hard to say, but I keep thinking of Oleg Maskaev being thrown to the wolves like Pete, only to a lesser degree and still getting a title, no matter how briefly.

People focus on the novelty issue of him facing Patterson on debut, but look at Rademacher's wider career. He was thrown to the wolves from start-to-finish, but still put in some surprisingly commendable displays, all told.

I would stop short of saying he could have earned a legacy (of sorts), but he definitely could've amounted to more under better circumstances. His entire career was criminally managed.

Anybody know how much Rademacher got paid for the Patterson fight?
