Ranking Rid**** Bowe above Lennox Lewis, can it be justified ?

I also see a lot of Bowe fans claiming that Bowe was superior and would have beaten Lewis. I personally never saw anything from Bowe that would make me believe that. His biggest wins were over Holyfield but other than that, Bowe's resume doesnt come close to matching Lewis in terms of longevity or opponents.

My own previous posts mention that Lewis deserves this on longevity and accomplishments.

I just think that Bowe was technically superior and had better punch resistance. I'd wager that his jab was better, his hands faster, his combinations more impressive, his infighting yards ahead. The Bowe from Holyfield 1 was clearly a class above any version of Lewis I've seen over the 12 round distance.......and the Holyfield that Bowe fought (1st and 2nd times) was by some way much superior to any of Lewis's opponents.

In a head to head matchup, I think he would come out on top.

Actually Bowe did not quite share your beliefs unfortunately, and morever if I remember right got smocked by Lewis earlier. Was he in his prime no? But was Lewis either since he is accepted as a late bloomer anyway.

Agree with Bowes handspeed and infighting ability. But Lewis had a far better and more concussive right hand. One of the best IMO.

I'm very much a Lewis fan as you know too. But looking at the pair of them prime for prime there is no dispute to my eyes as to who was the superior technically. Eddie Futch did a great job with everything barring Bowe's discipline.

Yea, I watched it yesterday, it was pretty even till that flurry by Lewis which resulted in the 8 count. Bowe protested of course.

The next right from Lewis was good, but it shouldn't have been stopped.

But hell, I dont think that fight gives any indication of how things would pan out in the pro game.

As for them not meeting and Bowe relinquishing the title, I can only go on what I remember from reading the papers at the time. I do gather Lewis priced himself out of it by wanting 50/50 and the WBC felt this was a fair split, but Bowe wasn't interested.

Sonnyboyx has said that Lewis wanted 50/50 plus options on Bowe's next few fights. If this is true then I do think that the WBC were unjust in stripping Bowe.

Someone knows the truth! But I'm not too sure....

But as always, I agree that Lewis deserves to be ranked higher on an ATG list.
