  • George Foreman Vs. Shannon Briggs

I can't believe their wasn't a thread for this here!

Their is no way that Foreman lost that fight. I scored rounds 1 either way, but gave it to Foreman for a small accuracy/punch amount. 2-4, 8-12 definitively for Foreman. He not only beat Briggs, he dominated him AND he was the heaviest he was for the biggest part of his comeback >.<

Get this crap, Foreman threw 157 jabs, landed 68%!!! Briggs 57 jabs, 42%! No comparison. Not only did Foreman hurt Briggs to the body in round 8 or 9 or so, he landed the harder cleaner shots all fight long, he dodged Briggs punches better than Briggs dodged his(lol) And looked much the better in the 12th round, would have KOed Briggs if it was a 15 round fight. Briggs had nothing on George but hair! Pathetic...I give this fight to George, when I talk about Foreman I say "Foreman beat Briggs, beat him good" because I don't let this sort of crap bother me in boxing, it is something that has crushed this sport in the eyes of the public!

Was this the worst decision in heavyweight history? In boxing history?

Correction, George LANDED 157 jabs and threw 230, even worse!

I thought it was a bad one but there are worse. The Lewis-Holyfield draw in fight 1, Chris Byrd over Fres Oquendo, Spinks-Holmes II and not a scorecard blunder but still a bad decision, Joey Curtis' decision to stop Dokes-Weaver I in the opening round.

and often debated-(I guess it depends what side of the ring you sit on on all of these)
    Louis-Walcott I
    Lewis-Holyfield II
    Valuev-Holyfield
    Holyfield Ruiz I
    and probably a few more

          Agreed TBear's post was good.

As for Foreman vs Briggs, I never got to see it back in 1998 when it happened but I did get to see Brigg's fairly impressive showing against Lennox Lewis. He seemed fast, powerful and game that night so I thought that in hindsight he may well have been too fast, young and spritely for a near 50 year old Foreman.

THEN a few years later I actually watched the Foreman vs Briggs fight. Foreman was a revelation that night, one of the best performances since his comeback began in 1987!

I certainly scored it to Foreman and by at least two rounds, I could scarcely believe the scores when they were announced.

George was first class in the post fight interview, he said he was happy to now be a salesman and hoped that the win for Briggs would open doors for him (which it did!). George could rightly have gone bananas, he deserved that result.
