When it comes to these close fights i do think things as ring and glove size matter. It may seem tedious on the surface, but i ask you do you think SRL would have done as well against Hagler in a smaller ring, 8 ounce gloves, and a 15 round fight? In a 15 round fight with 8 ounce gloves i slightly favor Duran, in a modern 12 round fight with big ring i give the edge to Whitaker.
Alot of fights are won in the negotiating table. Pac man will continue to put those catchweights as long as guys like Cotto & Margs need Pac to make the big money. Erik Morales got Pac to wear 10 ounce gloves the first fight and he won, won't say that was the reason he won, but in the second fight those body shots slowed him down alot more with those 8 ounce gloves.
