He was a fair candidate back in Gene Tunney's time too. But there are several back then that I would rate over Wilde.

For pound for pound punching power he would have had a good argument back then.

I have read in the past that Tunney did say he was the greatest.

Wilde being the Greatest Flyweight of all-time up to this very day is at least as great as any of the pre-1920's great. You can't compare the weight divisions anyhoo.

Yea Jimmy Wilde was a legend. But there were other superb pound for pound fighters that predated 1920:

Jack Johnson
Bob Fitzimmons
Jack Dempsey
Sam Langford
Harry Greb
George Carpentier
Joe Gans
Ted Kid Lewis

Does Jimmy deserve to be ranked higher than the likes of these guys? He is certainly up there, and Tunney is well entitled to his opinion.
