'Better' is a hard thing to define!

I'd say that Tyson punched a shade quicker in single blows and in combinations and I'd go so far as to say that Tyson punched with more power in both hands.

Louis was scarily accurate though, more so than Tyson.

Its a pretty even toss up really, but if I'm honest I'd be more scared about taking one of Tyson's punches than Louis's. I'd also be more scared about facing the Tyson that met Spinks rather than the Louis who met Schmelling second time round.

Louis was a lot more calculated, but Tyson seemed to have more impact in his punches. He would make his opponent's bodies contort.

tyson all the way, tyson has power speed and accuracy, and threw these punches with well timed precision, there is not one boxer in the history of the sport to matching tysons overall punching ability, trying to compare joe with mike is like comparing apples and oranges,

Joe Louis, had power and was very accurate. Have to go with him.

I'd much rather get hit by Tyson than Louis.

Tyson's power is overrated imo. Very few of his knockouts were of the one-punch variety; generally his kos were scored against opponents who were already hurt.

Agreed, if you really like being knocked unconcious.......Tyson is definitely the best man for the job. Ha ha

But to be fair and objective Louis probably didn't punch as hard as Tyson in terms of one punch power and the punches didn't come quite as quick.

Louis did have the better jab, if only because Tyson didn't use his quite as much......but I think the voting probably flatters Louis. Louis is no doubt the better champion with the better record, legend and legacy but when it comes down to who actually punched 'better' this is a very close call.

I have no shame in admitting that I shade prime Tyson in that department.

What is better? IMO Tyson was the pure puncher. Throwing bombs with bad intentions as soon as the bell rang. Every punch was meant to decapitate. Louis was much more calculated and it's either Louis or Dempsey that was the best in heavyweight history in putting punches together in lethal combinations.
