Who do you rank as the higher jimmy young or Jimmy Ellis?

Young beat young Foreman, fat Ali (robbed of a win), arguably beat Norton, beat Lyle, arguably beat Occasio the first time.
Right there, you have 2 top 5 heavyweight AT in Foreman and Ali, and 1 top 25 AT in Norton.
Not a ****er, but a good counterpuncher with a great chin who didn't neglect to go to the body. He was tough to hit.
One of my favorites actually.
He was used as a stepping stone at the end of his career.
He was better than his record indicates. If I had to resume his career, I would call it unlucky, unfortunate.
I won't break down Ellis, I don't know enough about him. Looking at his record, I can say he didn't perform as well as Young against top competition, and he was lucky to get a piece of the HW crown. His best win is Quarry.
I would rank Young ahead of Ellis based on achievements and talent.Last edited by Tiozzo; 10-11-2010, 10:53 PM.

Young all day every day. His resume is better even w/ two "gift" decisions going Ellis' way (Quarry & Patterson [Can't speak on the Quarry fight from personal experience]) while he himself was robbed against Ali and Norton (saw both). He prolly deserved to beat the extremely technically limited Earnie Shavers in the rematch as well. First fight shouldn't even count, Young was green as grass. I have no idea what happened in the rematch but I just can't see Earnie Shavers deserving to beat anyone good after 10 rounds if it goes to the cards.

Jimmy Young is very over rated with his only claim to fame being that he got a very dubious decision over Foreman
virtually everybody with half a brain know that Young was robbed when he fought an out of shape Ali
sticking his head out of the ring was a disgraceful tactic, but the fight is scored round by round, and round by round, Young definitely beat Ali
and as I said, Young was on the bad end of decisions that could have gone his way many times
I give no value whatsoever to your opinion, you have too much bias
you should go away, but you won't, fulfilling your agenda is a never ending task
