Recently looked into Newsboy Brown's record. Vote him in. Just from a quick eyeball it looks like he beat 5 HOFers (Chalky Wright, Baby Arizmendi, Panama Al Brown, Midget Wolgast, Frankie Genaro). He also drew twice with HOFer Fidel LaBarba.

Then there's his wins over Speedy Dado (Dado beat 2 HOFers and drew with another).

    Newsboy all the way.

If so his record must be very incomplete....could you tell me more about him?

That's the Peter Jackson he means ^.

Got few good wins against Langford, Walcott, Donovan and Philadelphia O'Brien, was very inconsistent though.

Sad, I'm fully aware of this guy. Just couldn't seem to pull him up on boxrec at the time. Looks like they actually incorporated the Young into his real name, which would explain why I couldn't bring him up.

Anyways I just happened to be looking at Bantamweights...that's how I came across the other Jackson.

Just to let you know, I voted for 10 out of the 50 listed and Newsboy Brown was one of them. Last year I voted for him as well.

They changed it a little for this year. Last year they put in the top 3 vote getters in both the modern and old-timers, this year there putting in the top 3 for the modern But only the top 2 for the old-timers.

For a start, there's One LEGEND that is not on this list that is a shocking and glaring omission. there are guys in there who were completely outclassed by this Non-Pariel ( according to Tunney and no less than Dempsey ) boxer. I will give a hint, fighters that he destroyed, Jeff Smith, Eddie McGoorty, Chip and Clabby, HINT No.2, he was known as "The Maitland Wonder". If you even have to ask by now you need to read more. Of course it was Les Darcy, one of THE Greatest Middleweights of all time. If some had asked, Jimmy Clabby, McGoorty, Chip, Smith and K.O. Brown which guy gave them their worst trouble, most embarrassment and the most comprehensive beatings of their careers they would have said DARCY. Some famous Quotes by those in position to judge, TEX RICKARD, "The most impressive piece of fighting machinery I've seen ( 1916 )". Jimmy CLABBY, " Les is the greatest man (fighter) in the world, he could beat them all including any Heavyweight", just about all of his opponents too. Les Darcy's record is one of the most incredible of any pre 70's boxer. Les Darcy's Record was ( there are 2 conflicting accounts ) either, 50-46-4 OR 56-52-4 , Darcy was NEVER stopped nor was he even dropped once in his entire career. The losses (4-2 by Dec and 2 by DQ) on his record account for nothing as they happened at a very young age (between 17 & 18yo) and he avenged all defeats with devastating performances. Darcy's last fight was his Defence of one half of the World Title against Ex Champion George "Backfist" Chip (I even have copies of most of the original fight posters), Darcy Dismantled Chip in 9 rounds then knocks him out cold with a Ray Robinson like perfect left hook (Like the one that put Fullmer to sleep). A Blacksmith at age 13, Les developed one of the most impressive physique's ever (Re-Rickard-Quote), as a result of this he developed amazing strength. CHIN, 10 out of 10, PUNCH Power, at least a 9. SPEED, 7 or 8. Anyway that's a bit of info on him. If anyone hasn't seen any Darcy footage you can find at least 4 of his fights on Y.T. It is also the only chance to see famous fighters like Chip, Clabby, McGoorty, K.O. Brown and Dave Smith. Dead Age 21, one of the Greatest disasters in history of boxing, just think of his likely opponents 1917-30, (forget about Fred Fulton, he faced Darcy in a "Prvate bout" in front of the likes of Rickard and Kearns and quit on his stool after just 2 rounds) Greb, Willard, Carpentier, Rosenbloom, Dempsey, Dillon, Klaus, Gibbons, Tunney, Loughran, Walker to name a few and Darcy would have been unbackable favorite against nearly all of them. Anyway, here's my top ten ( I wont number in order ) for 1900-19. SAM LANGFORD, J.J. JEFFRIES, LES DARCY, S. KETCHEL, J JOHNSON, Ted Kid LEWIS, G. CARPENTIER, G. GARDENER, JOE GANS, J. WILDE. Close but NO CIGAR,....... B. NELSON, FITZ ( sorry but I rate him as Prev. Gen.), F WELSH, P. KANE and a few more like Gibbons and Clabby. The fight I would most like to see in HD Colour ,... I think,.... The DARCY v McGOORTY one that wasn't filmed, it was awesome according to eyewitnesses

Some people have claimed on other threads that Peter Jackson was the best ever to come out of Australia (buried in Queensland) but that Title belongs to the 'Bradman of Australian Boxing", The (almost) undisputed all-tlme Aussie CHAMPEEN, LES DARCY
