I prob favour Monzon slightly. I base that on the size difference. He was taller with a longer reach....he may be able to outwork Burley----> who liked to counter when balanced.
I agree with almost your entire post.Except that you slightly favour Monzon "based on the size difference".Burley often fought and beat very good fighters giving away 10-25lbs.Burley was a Middleweight when he knocked down and beat Archie Moore.Moore said that Burley was the best fighter he ever fought! That's saying something when thinking of all the great fighters that Moore fought.Muhammad Ali,Rocky Marciano,Ezzard Charles(Greatest Light heavyweight of all-time)to name just a few.

I wouldn't favour Monzon based on the size difference, when looking at how much weight Burley gave away his entire carreer and beating very good and great fighters when giving away 10-25 lbs.Burley even KO'd some heavyweights!

This is a toss-up fight that could go either way.Just about like you said.A great fantasy match-up!

I'm not sure how you can really calculate this match-up considering the lack of footage with Burley.

Luckily the one fight we all get to see of Burley is arguably against a better Middleweight than Monzon ever faced. Even better that Smith was well over the MW limit at the time.

Ehh, regardless if he is or not, that would be resorting to a triangle theory in a sense.
