  • Who would be in the top 10 in a small ring.

I was thinking if boxing took place in a 5 by 5 ring and all of the boxers in history started their career's at the same time. And there were no weight classes. which would be the top ten boxers at the end of their career's?

My top 3 would go something like this.

    1. Rocky Marciano

    2. Joe Frasier

    3. Mike Tyson

    interesting idea

I wouldn't put Tyson in that category, dude didn't fight inside all that well

Frazier and Marciano definitely would be in their comfort zone though

imagine Whitaker in a 5 by 5 ring, the display of head and upper body movement would be epic

I would add Armstrong for sure, one of the best inside fighters ever

Duran and Hagler would have a field day.

I don't know how many fights would go the distance in a ring that size. And a good jab and long arms would not be that important.

Your right Whitaker would maybe do well in a small ring his lack of big power might be a problem though.

Interesting list, have not seen Jeffries, Greb or Sullivan fight. But they may have had what it would take.

My top 10 as best as I can make it would go

            1. Marciano

            2. Fraizer

            3. Tyson

            4. Holyfield

            5. Bowe

            6. Foreman

            7. Louis

            8. Dempsy

            9. Hagler

            10.Ketchel

If you believe like me that in a short ring, throwing short, powerful punches are the key , then you cannot have anyone else than Jack dempsey at the top followed closely by Joe Louis. Those two possess the most number of knockouts at close range...I have no idea who will come in next. But those two are the ones who I think will walk out of phone booths if they are forced to fight the others.

George Foreman and Joe Frazier would destroy most fighters.

Duran would kill anyone in his weight range.

                  #1 Tyson
                  #2 Foreman
                  #3 Frazier
                  #4 Dempsey
                  #5 Liston
                  #6 Joe Louis
                  #7 Marciano
                  #8 Rid**** Bowe

                  #9 Roberto Duran
                  #10 Manny Pacquiao

#1 Tyson was an animal, a 85-88 Tyson would clean anyway out of the ring. Foreman #2 he is the hardest hitter in history, a savage knockout rate. #3 Frazier cos he was a superb slugger and that left hook would impale someone if he was in a 5 X 5 ring. You'd need 3 fighters on the same night!

I gave the last 2 to classes outside heavyweight.

I also believe short powerful punches would be key. Also a high level of skill fighting in the pocket.

I have not seen enough footage or read enough about Jack Dempsey but If his reputation is accuret then maybe I agree with you on your top pick. I also had Joe Louis rated high.

I may have George Foerman and Rid**** Bowe rated to high. I am not to sure how many of the best in a small ring would be taller heavyweights. Middle weights would have some advantages I think.
