To simplify it, skills are technical abilities. Defensive technique, offensive technique, stance etc You can be talented skillwise, in that you are able to quickly learn and apply techniques as they are taught to you.

Things like speed, power, chin are attributes. They can be improved through training, but usually someone who is very proficent in an area like that has been gifted with it naturally. Some kids have naturally fast hands, some can ****, some can take blows well and continue without a problem. Everyone can improve these things, but you won't get to the level of someone who has it naturally.

I guess on the power front, technique plays a fair part though.
Sometimes, sometimes not. George Foreman had pretty terrible technique at times, but his sheer strength and natural power made for a knockout punch even when he was just wildly clubbing.

Other guys have a knockout punch through flawless technique combined with a bit of natural strength. Louis and Arguello are examples.

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skill
A skill is the learned capacity to carry out pre-determined results often with the minimum outlay of time, energy, or both.
the capacity for a person to improve power speed or chin over any time period less then time takes to take your power speed or chin away has a skill.

sugar ray clearly trained to do something and he clearly did it better then Archie Moore, id say that is a skill. Much more skill then Archie Moore ever showed of what he trained to do.

Was that really a dig at the Ol' Mongoose ?.

Nobody had much more then Archie did, to do so well for as long as he did is just outstanding, he was one of the best to enter the ring.

Your second paragraph is pretty much how I would have responded. Ha ha

I guess some guys are naturally heavy handed, but in the case of Moore and Robinson I think technique was more of a factor than in George's case.

can you name a boxer with no skills and incredible speed?

have you ever been to a boxing gym?

look around, just about every one of them has improved their speed and power since they started.
ali improved his chin?please explain how?

zab judah and jermaine taylor come to mind right off the top.im sure i can come up with tons others

some things happen with age.if everybody could improve speed, chin and skill, then there would be a helluva lot better boxers in the world
