Jones was slower at heavyweight, it just didnt show against the immobile ruiz, agains one of the quickest heavyweights ever, who knew how to cut off a ring, Jones gets monstered.
In 1995 Tyson had just came out of jail and that year blew out a nobody in Peter McNeely in one round.
Later that year he looked extremely rusty in KO ing Buster Mathis Jnr. Before the knockout combination in round 3, Tyson was hit, tied up, bulled to the ropes. It was very messy.
I think its easy to underestimate Roy Jones at heavyweight based on the deterioration of his chin after his move back to light heavyweight. He showed some dazzling skills against Ruiz, took some heavy whacks back and demonstrated that he was a genuine 12 round fighter up at the higher division. Tyson......post prison was never a genuine 12 round fighter and in 1995 he was ring rusty. So lucky punch aside, Jones does have a chance here.
The 1996 Tyson looked much better against Bruno and the hapless Seldon, but the thread concerns the 1995 Tyson, and his form that year was not impressive.
I would however pick 1986-1991 Tyson to beat the heavyweight version of Jones. Too fast, too powerful, too accurate.
As much as I hate Tyson, I don't see Jones winning this one. However, I also can't see Tyson knocking him out. I'd pick Tyson to win a fairly wide decision.
Even in his prime, I don't think Tyson had what it takes to KO someone like Jones.

That's right. He did. So, is it a question of whether Ruiz just didn't have the speed and power to hurt him and didn;t actually land a flush, hard shot or is it that Jones could take a genuine HW punch at that time.....
Or, the last and most important point....If Jones was taking some good, solid shots by Ruiz what would the harder, faster, KO power shots of Tyson do to Jones?
Ruiz wasn't a big HW by any stretch nor was he fast or a power puncher at all. He was good though. But, if Ruiz hit Jones....we know that Tyson would get a few in. What happens then?
I think we all forget that a hell of a lot of old MW's moved up and fought HW's in the golden eras gone by....not often did they win the HW title, but they did beat some greats....and yet they had go be seriously great. I personally don't think Jones could stand up to Tyson's punches. I don't think any fighter truly gets that effected by a weight drop of ten-fifteen pounds over six months after having just been at the same weight he cam from. It was a factor, no doubt but not as big as people make it out to be. He got hit flush by a hard, fast punch he didn't see. At no time in his career would Jones have gotten up from the punch he took from Tarver.

But, Tyson?
Some good points Benny. True, 1995 Tyson still had his power and speed, its just that he looked so rusty in the fights before Bruno. I could see Tyson swinging and missing alot early and blowing himself out. His timing was well off against Mathis, who was right in his face. Jones would be on his bike, sticking out his tongue, pot shotting, a bit of a nightmare for prison Mike.
I wouldn't factor out a Tyson KO, it'd be crazy to do that knowing Tyson's power, but honestly 1995 was a poor a year for Tyson, form wise.
There are some years post 1995 where I would lean to a Tyson victory. 1996 was a good year, as was the year 2000 (where he beat Francis, Savaresse and Golota).
