Ezzard Charles challengers after he took the title from Louis

How would 178 lbs Nick Barone do against Ruslan Chagaev
How about 27 losses Lee Oma, how would he fair against the unbeaten Arreola
Would 181 pound 16 loss Joey Maxim be able to deal with John Ruiz's clinching or his power? Haye was knocked back by Ruiz...who isnt powerful at HW, how would Joey Maxim do?
Ezzard then lost to Jersey Joe Walcott. WHAT A TITLE REIGN! GOLDEN AGE ALL THE WAY. As champ Ezzard's average opponent had 17 losses...oh it truly was magnificent back then, when fighters with 27 losses who weighed 193 lbs got title shots. Sure Lee Oma was KO'ed 17 times before he fought for a title, but did you know that Gomez was knocked out once before fighting Vitali. What a bum...to be KO'ed once. Sure Lee Oma had been KO'ed in the first 3 rounds 7 times in his career, but when he fought Charles for the title...he hadnt been knocked out in almost 6 months.

When Lee Oma fought Ezzard Charles he was so prime too. I mean sure, a year before the fight he was involved in a double DQ for "Clowning around." But now he was 36, more mature than he was at 35. Sure at one point in Lee Oma's career he had a streak of 1-5-2, but that was a whple 2 years before he got a title shot, way back in Lee Oma's early 30's. And 2 of those losses shouldnt count since they were against all time great, Henry "Snow Flakes(real nickname)" Flakes. Who, would go on to have a great career; as a murderer. He was executed only 12 years after this fight for murder.

Or how about the great nick barone, who got his title shot even though 5 months earlier he had lost to...who else... LEE OMA. Sure just a year and a half before he lost twice to fighters weighing under 175 lbs. But Nick Barone deserved that title shot. He had put together 2 victories in a row. IN A ROW. He didnt win like one fight, and then have a draw, he won 2 fights in a row. Against greats like Jimmy Beau who weighed 159 lbs. And Joe Taylor, who despited being 5'7 and 160 lbs, packed awesome power in his fist. So awesome that he had 9 KO's at the time. Sure he had never fought anyone over 160, but as sonny boy will tell you, smaller guys hit harder. The great Nick Barone deserved his title shot. He beat 2 middleweights (who are naturally harder to beat than HW's according to Sonny Boy) and had a grueling fight with Lee Oma...thats challenger material right there. Ruslan Chagaev would stand no chance against this beast with a ko% of 35% who never fought anyone over 192 lbs in his career. Oh man Chagaev would be in big trouble. BIG trouble. Game over.

Wow looking over it...I guess you are right Sonnyboy. Wlad is cherry picking all these fighters who have 0-2 losses. Ezzard Charles' reign at HW was so much more impressive. This truly is the worst HW division of all time.
Nick Barone put up a tremendous fight for the title and finally succumbed to the champion in the 11th round suffering the 1st knock out of his 50 fight career

Charles vs Oma was another great fight for the title which "SOLD-OUT" Madison Square Gardens... something Vitali could never do as the only time he fought their it was in the small theatre not the main arena and he still could not sell it out.

Did you not read my post, clearly Lee Oma was an ATG. Sure he had been double DQ'ed earlier in the year for "clowning around" sure he had been KO'ed 17 times previously, sure he had been knocked out just 6 months before getting his shot, but he sold out MSG? WOW. GOAT clearly.

Nick Barone had strung together 2 great wins to get his shot, sure they were against middleweights who were fighting the biggest fighter they ever faced in the 172 lbs Barone and middleweights definitely have huge advantages over heavyweights. Or was Barone a HW or a LHW, I dont know.
Sure he would be KO'ed 3 times within 7 months of fighting Charles, but who cares, Nick Barone sold well in the U.S.

But anyways you are right, these were quality opponents Ezzard Charles fought. These opponents would clearly be larger than any Klitschko brother and totally annihilate either one of them.

Im just curious how many people bought the Barone vs. Charles ppv? Those numbers had to be huge? Dont tell me it was on normal HBO. Some people will argue people would go to more boxing events in NYC back in the day because they didnt have the ability to watch it at home on High Def tvs with max kellerman and larry merchant color commentating...that the only way many could watch the fight was by buying a ticket and going and that modern technology actually allows you to see more of a fight than in person as well as to do so cheaper and with more comfort...I say those people are idiots. The 7'4 94''reach Ezzard Charles clearly would fill stadiums today. Sure the Klitschko's fill stadiums in Europe with ease and are watched aroudn the globe...but MSG fits like 25,000 people. Thats like the exact same size as a 70,000 seat soccer arena.

Also popularity=greatness. Lady Gaga is awesome so is Justin Timberlake, and that Beiber kid. So incredible. The best musicians out there.

Wlad is fighting over in Germany this weekend with the fight not even being broadcast abroad or even being shown in the brothers own country, which shows just how pathetic and low they have brought this sport down too.
you see, I knew you had an agenda, it was so obvious from the very beginning... and you should know that I'm not even a Klit fan

don't take it personal, it's all good, I've made bait threads in the past too
