Incredibly overrated. He's a top 100 P4P and a top 15 HW, at best. People claim he would "knock out any legendary fighter" yet conveniently ignore the fact that he couldn't knock out such legends as Quick Tillis, Tony Tucker, or the great Buster Douglas, all of whom he fought in his prime.

no more overrated than ali or frazier

The problem with Tyson is that his 'prime' was incredibly short.. probably the shortest of any champion ever.

To be thought of as a top 100 fighter of all time and a top fifteen heavyweight is pretty incredible. Doesn't sound like overrating to me, really. I can see him argued in the 6-15 slot at heavy anywhere pretty easily, which is great. I can also see him in the 50-100 p4p somewhere too, depending on how you rate.

I think "Buffet" Bowe's was shorter.

I have him at number 10 on own ATG Heavyweight list and wouldn't really quibble with anyone having him 7 through 12. He DOES get overrated by his nuthuggers (who rate him as the number 1 Heavyweight GOAT) but that's true for just about every fighter. The problem is that Tyson's fan bois tend to be so obnoxious and delusional that it causes a backlash among some boxing fans and he winds up getting underrated by them.

Absolutely not. Tyson was of most vicious heavyweights i've ever seen step in the ring. I see alot of people underestimating Tysons skills today rather than overating them. Tyson was pretty much the finished article untill his lifestyle got himself into trouble, which resulted in him going down hill, it was never the same Tyson once he lost to Buster. The media destroyed Tyson as a fighter!

You can find hundreds of people all over the Internet who claim he's the top HW of all time, and even people who think he's P4P #1. If we're talking about legitimate boxing historians, who typically rank him around #15 as a HW, then that's about correct.
