  • Ayub Kalule

One of the best boxers to fight out of Denmark, and arguably the best to have come out of Uganda, challenged by the likes of Boza-Edwards, John Mugabi and Kassim Ouma.

He cleaned out the light middleweight division starting from his 10th pro fight when he took out the 66-2 light middle champ Elisha Obed. Two and a half years later he was finally given a title shot, having cleaned out the division of its best contenders.

Kalule is likely THE best to ever fight out of Denmark. He was the most technically gifted fighter I ever saw in this country. The only thing he lacked was the KO punch. But he was brave and highly unorthodox and firing the most ackward punches. He was a rightie who turned southpaw because that's what his brother was and Kalule wanted to be like him.

Today Kalule is mostly remembered for his fight with Ray Leonard and his career after that fight. That's a shame because Kalule peaked before he became champion against Kudo, who had ducked him for years.

Due to his lack of punch. Kalule had to wear his opponents down and that took a huge toll on his body. Still one of the remarkeable wins he has from late in his career is against the Sumbu Kalambay whom he outpointed. IN ITALY! Well Kalambay had troubles with southpaws that's for sure.
