Eubank-Watson I,II: What are your thoughts on these fights?

I got around to watching Eubank-Watson I,II the other day amazing fights. I personally think these were some of Eubank's finest performances

both was great fights and great performances from both fighters yet i feel Eubanks was even more impressive in his two fights with Carl Thompson which were 2 of the best fights in Britain over the last 50yrs

The first one, I think you can score any one of three ways, I can see it scored as a draw, or a win either way. I got not problem with any close card.

Regardless of how you feel about the scoring of that fight, Watson was absolutley convinced he was robbed. He was also the more weight drained of the two, a little reported fact.

This sense of injustice affected Watson deeply, and two things happened when he moved up. First, he believed he couldn't win a decision on the cards. Secondly, he was a much, much better fighter, due to the weight. Eunbank said of him immediatly after the fight, "I want him tested...nobody could be that strong, nobody." This from a guy who had done 9 tough rounds with Benn.

Watson was well ahead on points at the time of his stoppage - but he absolutely charged Eubank in the penultimate round convinced that he still needed this stoppage, and that it was within his grasp. Eubank fought back hard and landed that perfect punch.

What happened happened. Watson never blamed anyone for what happened to him. Various people associated with him have tried to accept their share of the blame over the years - Watson wouldn't have it. Maybe his finest hour.

Eubank was excellent in those two fights, as you say. But so was Micheal. Often overlooked.

I hadn't watched either fight since I was a kid, Eubank was an amazing fighter, back in the day.

Not sure how I feel about the Thompson fights, on one had they showed what a great warrior Eubank was, on the flip side he took a lot of punishment from around round 6 onwards during both fights. But I have to agree they were both great fights as well

I agree with this, its was a matter of quantity vs quality, Watson threw more punches, but Eubank landed the harder punches

Watson was a big mw, I'm surprised he didn't move up sooner
