First of all Rahman didnt fight cruisers his whole career. Rahman constantly took on heavies and took on the best heavies out there. He went to war with big punchers, he went to war with super heavies. He wasnt like Shavers, who fought guys and lost to guys with losing records in the prime of his career. Rahman was fighting for titles.
Rahman's KO over Lewis is far superior to any KO that Shavers ever had. Much much better than a short Norton or a 7-3 199 lbs Jimmy Young. Nothing Shavers ever did compares to that. Rahman fought the much higher calibur of fighter. He got robbed a few times, both against Toney and against Tua but both wound up in draws. Those draws to me are better than any Shavers win. He doesnt have the bad losses, the worst fighter he lost to was Maskaev. That was more a matchup issue than anything. Maskaev was built to beat Rahman. Also Maskaev looks like Vitali Klitschko compared to some of the guys who killed Shavers.
Rahmans chin was much superior. Went toe to toe with Tua, battled Holy, battled some of the biggest punchers out there. Yeah he lost sometime but not like Shavers. I his prime he fought no one under 205, and only 4 guys under 220 and one was Holyfield. Shavers on the other hand usually fought Cruisers, or guys whose weights dont even register on boxrec, and why should 1-29 Ted Hamilton, who Shavers fought while prime, be listed in boxrec. Shavers fought a guy, in his prime, who was 1-29...what a joke.
Why in 1978 was Shavers fight John Girowski, 182 lbs with a 21-15 record. What a freaking joke. But count that as a KO for an ATG? or 1975, Shavers fought 2 guys with a losing record. One was 2-17-2, the other 6-7, oh and his KO% wasnt even that good, far below a Klitschko. 76% yet he fought 33 guys with either a losing record or in their first fight. 33.
Shavers fought 33 guys with either a losing record or in their first fight. Thats not even bums, thats flat out jokes. 1/2 of his knockouts came against guys with losing records or who were in their first fight. I suppose Joe Calzaghe is the greatest p4p puncher, because he was 22-0 with 21 KO's when he was fighting straight bums, bums with better records than that.
Im sick and tired of this Shavers nonsense. Ive heard people talking about him like he'd beat a Klitschko, either Klitschko would KO him in 1. Rahman was far superior to Shavers. yet people on here will laugh without citing a fact.
